A new international study, co-authored by Prof. Shengxian (Sanven) Tu of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zsolt Piroth, Zsolt Kőszegi from Hungary, and Gábor G. Tóth from Austria, compared Murray law-based quantitative flow ratio (μFR) with invasive FFR in 33 LAD lesions. hashtag#μFR analysis was performed using hashtag#AngioPlus by Pulse Medical.
📊 Key Findings
🔹 Hydrostatic correction increased mean FFR from 0.78 to 0.81, matching the mean μFR value of 0.81.
🔹 The systematic bias between μFR and FFR was reduced from 0.03 to nearly zero.
🔹 μFR demonstrated excellent diagnostic performance, with an AUC of 0.977.
🔹 After correction, 4 of 33 lesions (12%) crossed above the FFR threshold of 0.80.
💡 Why It Matters
As an angiography-derived physiological assessment, μFR offers several practical advantages:
✅ Wire-free assessment, avoiding pressure-wire crossing of the lesion
✅ No pharmacological hyperemia required
✅ Single-view analysis, supporting a more efficient workflow
✅ No hydrostatic pressure artifact, which may improve consistency in borderline LAD lesions
The results suggest that hydrostatic pressure may partly explain μFR–FFR discordance in borderline LAD lesions and further highlight the potential of μFR for efficient and standardized coronary physiological assessment.
