✨ The 11th PCI Optimization by Physiology And Imaging (POPAI 2026) in Japan was a remarkable success. On 19th Sep, we were honored to host a dedicated Special Symposium: "Imaging-based Physiological Assessment of Coronary Artery Disease."
Our symposium brought together leading experts to explore how AI-powered physiology and imaging are transforming PCI decision-making. A huge thank you to our distinguished speakers: Prof. Shengxian Tu, Dr. Kotaro Miyashita, and Dr. Yoshihiro Yamada for their insightful contributions.
🔬 Prof. Shengxian Tu – AI-powered Computational Coronary Physiology
▪️ CT-μFR (CtaPlus): On-site, non-invasive physiology from CCTA; ~90% diagnostic accuracy; fusion with angiography guides PCI planning.
▪️ μFR (AngioPlus): Single-view, AI-powered, Murray law-based; 99% analyzability, 88s analysis time; supported by multiple RCTs (FAVOR III China, FLAVOUR II, FAVOR IV-QVAS, AIR-STEMI)
▪️ RWS: Angiography-derived plaque vulnerability marker; adding RWS to μFR improves safety of deferring non-flow-limiting vessels and predicts non-target vessel events; associated with future adverse coronary events.
▪️ Biomechanical assessment & integration: Adds complementary information (coronary bending, device-vessel interaction) and, integrated with physiology and imaging, improves risk stratification.
📊 Dr. Kotaro Miyashita – Physiological Phenotype and Adequacy of Flow in Predicting Residual Angina
▪️ AoF defined as post-PCI μFR >0.90 (treated) and >0.80 (untreated vessels).
▪️ Only 61% achieved AoF despite angiographic success.
▪️ Achieving AoF plus focal baseline phenotype (PPGi) predicted better angina relief at 2 years.
💡 Dr. Yoshihiro Yamada – Long-Term Plaque Progression at Coronary Spasm Site Assessed by CT-μFR
▪️ 10-year follow-up of vasospastic angina patient using CT-μFR.
▪️ CT-μFR dropped from 0.99 to 0.65; plaque burden increased from 50% to 89%.
▪️ Shows CT-μFR can track plaque progression at spasm sites non-invasively.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at POPAI 2026. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to advance imaging-based physiological assessment! 🙏
